On Being a Spiritual Guide

Friday, October 5, 2007, 9:30am-4pm
Friday, April 4, 2008, 9:30am-4pm

The true healing effects of spiritual direction come not from our own efforts as spiritual directors, but when we attend to the Holy Spirit in our interchanges, when we are aware of seeking grace, when God works through our relationships. This quality of presence undergirds every aspect of the Shalem Spiritual Guidance Program, and I love to see the difference it makes in people. (Jerry May)

If people come to you formally or informally for help with their spiritual lives, you may wish to explore this ministry by attending this one-day workshop.

In this experiential introduction to spiritual guidance, we will look at the distinction between spiritual direction and counseling, the distinctions and overlaps between spiritual direction and group spiritual direction, and resources for this ministry. We also will address questions that might aid one's discernment of call to this form of spiritual leadership. Several guided experiences will be included.

For those interested in Shalem's Spiritual Guidance Program, a special introduction will be given.
(For those interested in the Winter 2010 SGP class, please consider attending the April event.)
