On Being a Retreat Leader
Deepening Contemplative Leadership
Friday, October 26, 2007, 10am-4pm
Saturday, April 5, 2008, 10am-4pm
The leader's role is a very humble and delicate one: assisting an atmosphere that frees everyone to listen in simple trust. (Tilden Edwards)
Do you have a growing sense of call to retreat leadership? Are others sensing Presence in your leadership and inquiring about you leading retreats?
In all considerations of contemplative leadership, we want to make choices for spaciousness, flexibility, and openness to the True Leader, the Spirit. With this posture of the heart and mind, this workshop will address practical items for planning a retreat: theme, content, schedule, space, forming community, entering silence, etc. More importantly, we will explore our experiences and hopes of offering authentic spiritual leadership, fostering a setting in which retreatants may be led to personal encounters with God. We will give special attention to problems and resistances that may arise on retreats.
For those interested in Shalem’s Leading Contemplative Prayer Groups & Retreats Program, a special introduction will be given.
