Links

Up one level
Shalem's policy is to provide links to texts of the great authors of contemplative spirituality. The following links have been explored by Shalem staff and have been found to be potentially valuable resources. Please Report Broken Links to webmaster@shalem.org
Links Christian Classics Ethereal Library
The flagship of online classical spiritual writings, including those of many Christian contemplative masters. Maintained by Wheaton College. Recently updated with many new sources and utilities. Now has its own domain name (ccel.org), audio files, and even a search engine that can ferret through their vast resources for words or phrases.
Links The Internet Sacred Texts Archive
Contains a wide range of original texts and sources from diverse traditions. Some are in "e-book" form for purchase; many are directly accessible online. The site also includes other helpful resources, such as a timeline of world religions.
Links Early Church On-Line Encyclopedia
The "ECOLE" Initiative is sponsored by the University of Evansville (IN). It seeks "to establish a hypertext encyclopedia of early Church history (to the Reformation) on the World-Wide Web." Through this inventive and well-organized portal one has access to many Judæo-Christian and Islamic primary sources, articles, and images. Includes a glossary as well as a very helpful configurable timeline generator.
Links Mysticism in World Religions
A beautifully constructed and comprehensive site by Deb Platt, who has made available selected texts from many faith traditions, organized in such a way that one learns much about the various mystical paths from the texts themselves.
Links The Teresian Carmel
Online versions of the works of Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross, Therese of Lisieux and other Carmelites in original languages as well as English. (Maintained by Austrian Teresian Carmel).
Links Spiritual Resources
This is primarily a set of links to other sources. Well-organized with good interfaith resources and a fine mysticism section. Not recently updated, though, so some of the links no longer work.
Links Jewish Roots of Eastern Christian Mysticism
A new (2002) site established on the basis of an interdisciplinary dialogue from the Department of Theology at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. Contains a number of contemporary scholarly works as well as many links to original sources.
Links Christian Mystics
Another new (2002) site looking at Christian mystics both classical and contemporary, with a good set of links to original writings as well as numerous other resources.
Links The Library Resources
This section of the Graduate Theological Union Library of Berkeley, CA lists a number of links to electronic text collections. Click on the "Links to Other Sites" popup menu for an extensive list of resources from a variety of faith traditions.
Links Gnostic Society Virtual Library
Very extensive online archives of classical texts. An especially rich and well-organized collection of Hindu, Buddhist, Sufi (including Rumi), Taoist, Sikh, and Zoroastrian texts can be found in their Eastern Mysticism Library. Cross-searching capabilities make this an excellent research site.
Links Gnostic Society: Eastern Mysticism Library
Very extensive online archives of classical texts. An especially rich and well-organized collection of Hindu, Buddhist, Sufi (including Rumi), Taoist, Sikh, and Zoroastrian texts can be found in their Eastern Mysticism Library. Cross-searching capabilities make this an excellent research site.
Links Zen Buddhist Texts
Several translations of original texts plus links to other resources compiled and updated by Steven E. Newton.
Links The Coombsweb Server
Maintained by the Australian National University, this is an excellent resource for research on the spirituality of Asia and the Pacific Rim as well as Australia. The site includes access to extensive ftp archives from which original texts and scholarly papers can be downloaded directly or viewed onscreen. Two good examples are their Electronic Buddhist Archives and Asian Religions Archives.
Links Mysticism Resources
This is a comprehensive site compiled with care and creativity by Professor Gene Thursby of the Department of Religion at the University of Florida. We especially recommend Who's Who in the History of Mysticism created by Thursby and Bruce Janz, which is a wonderful chronology of principal figures in the mystical tradition, primarily Christian but including some others, hyper-linked to biographies and original texts.
Links Open Directory Project
A general listing of links to other spirituality sites, try the Open Directory Project, which is a very wide-ranging resource.
