Event: Returning to Yourself in the Midst of Care-Giving: A Retreat

with those who are dying: doctors, nurses, pastoral care workers,
Hospice workers, spiritual directors and those who companion partners,

input, quiet reflection, small and large group sharing and rest.

Spiritual Guidance. She has ministered in the area of spiritual for

Event: Universal Teachings in Jewish Spirituality: A Unique Opportunity to Learn, Listen, Reflect and Renew in the Jewish New Year

Details: The extraordinary High Holy Day season invites people to engage in a "Heshbon HaNefesh," an " accounting of the soul." Looking at powerful texts of the Hebrew Bible and Jewish tradition, we will explore how Jewish spirituality can guide us to greater self-awareness, compassion, gratitude and commitment in our lives. We will include creative and dynamic Sabbath and Jewish New Year rituals as well as periods of silence and contemplation. Jewish and non-Jewish who desire a deeper understanding of Jewish spirituality and of their own sense of an "accounting of the soul" are welcome.
Leader: Rabbi Lenore Bohm, a graduate of Shalem's Leading Contemplative Prayer Groups & Retreats Program, is one of the first 50 women ordained by the Reform movement and the first to serve in San Diego County. She has enhanced the spiritual lives of countless San Diego Jews and has been a promoter of Jewish women's and interfaith causes for over 25 years. She is a preacher, teacher, counselor and spiritual director.

Event: Christian Meditation: Silence, Stillness, Simplicity
Dates: Fourth Saturdays

Details: Experience a rhythm of contemplative prayer that includes a reading fromm one of the great contemplatives, a period of silent meditation, and time for sharing and reflection.

Event: Day of Prayer: Walking with Dorothy Day
Dates: Second Wednesday each month
Time: 9:15am - 2:00pm with the option to stay for quiet prayer time until 4:00pm.
Place: John XXIII Retreat Center, 407 W McDonald Street, Hartford City, IN 47348
Cost: Suggested donation is $18.00. The option to stay over the night before is also available for an extra fee.
Details: Dorothy Day had a passionate love for the poor, the outcast, and the downtrodden. She was a radical, a suffragist, and outspoken critic of the establishment. She was considered by many to be the most influential Roman Catholic of her time. The presence of Christ among the poor reminds us of the divine ethic to serve those who hunger, for in doing so we serve Christ. Introduction to Dorothy Day & Turning to God begins the series

Details: A Directed Retreat is a walk with Jesus in the lifetime journey to God, our Creator. It is a very special opportunity to work one-on-one with a spiritual director who guides you each day in a selection of Scripture readings, prayer time, and journal keeping.

Event: Sacred Listening: Group Spiritual Direction

Details: During the week, the underlying assumptions and process of group spiritual direction will be explored. We will also have the opportunity to experience it. There will be ample time for prayerful silence including a 24-hour silent retreat during the middle of the week. At the end of the week, we will notice and claim what is most powerful and healing about this process and how sacred listening together can transform our communities and our world.

Event: Taizé Retreat—A Journey Into the Heart of God
Dates: August 7-10, 2008

Cost: $299 double occupancy; $269 per person for groups of 5 or more (must be postmarked by July 10, 2008). Fee includes workshops and spiritual guidance.
Details: Withdraw from the world long enough to steep yourself in Christ's presence, become filled again with his joy and life, and return to the world renewed in his love. This retreat includes three Taizé services a day, Bible study (including lectio divina), workshops, and ample time for personal silence, reflection and renewal in a center nestled in the midst of woods and streams. Event: Labyrinth Prayer Walks
Dates: October 5, 2008 (World Communion Sunday) and November 30, 2008 (First Sunday in Advent)
Time: 6 to 8PM when on a Sunday and Noon to 3PM on Friday. Plan to arrive 30 minutes before closing.
Place: Kirkwood Presbyterian Church 8336 Carrleigh Parkway Springfield, VA
Cost: Free
Details: No prior experience is necessary; orientation is offered to those who have not walked a labyrinth before. An eight-page brochure is given to each walker upon entering and includes an insert for the specific prayer walk. A finger labyrinth is available for those unable to walk without assistance.

Event: Group Spiritual Direction

Details: A time to experience group spiritual direction.

Event: Contemplative Prayer Drop-in Group
Dates: Third Monday of each month
Time: 7:30 to 9PM
Place: Providence Presbyterian Church, 9019 Little River Turnpike, Fairfax, VA
Cost: No charge; occasional donations.
Details: The time includes brief introductions, opening prayer, some relaxation movements, the evening's presentation, 15 minutes of silence, journal-keeping and small group sharing. There is a closing intercessory prayer circle to name our concerns aloud or silently.
