Event: Returning to Yourself in the Midst of Care-Giving: A Retreat

Details: A retreat for all those whose lives lead them to be with those who are dying: doctors, nurses, pastoral care workers, Hospice workers, spiritual directors and those who companion partners, family and friends in their dying. Event: Universal Teachings in Jewish Spirituality: A Unique Opportunity to Learn, Listen, Reflect and Renew in the Jewish New Year

Details: The extraordinary High Holy Day season invites people to engage in a "Heshbon HaNefesh," an " accounting of the soul."  Looking at powerful texts of the Hebrew Bible and Jewish tradition, we will explore how Jewish spirituality can guide us to greater self-awareness, compassion, gratitude and commitment in our lives.  We will include creative and dynamic Sabbath and Jewish New Year rituals as well as periods of silence and contemplation. Jewish and non-Jewish who desire a deeper understanding of Jewish spirituality and of their own sense of an "accounting of the soul" are welcome.
Leader: Rabbi Lenore Bohm, a graduate of Shalem's Leading Contemplative Prayer Groups & Retreats Program, is one of the first 50 women ordained by the Reform movement and the first to serve in San Diego County.  She has enhanced the spiritual lives of countless San Diego Jews and has been a promoter of Jewish women's and interfaith causes for over 25 years.  She is a preacher, teacher, counselor and spiritual director.

Event: Christian Meditation: Silence, Stillness, Simplicity

Event: Day of Prayer: Walking with Dorothy Day
Dates: Second Wednesday each month
Time: 9:15am - 2:00pm with the option to stay for quiet prayer time until 4:00pm.

Cost: Suggested donation is $18.00. The option to stay over the night before is also available for an extra fee.
Details: Dorothy Day had a passionate love for the poor, the outcast, and the downtrodden. She was a radical, a suffragist, and outspoken critic of the establishment. She was considered by many to be the most influential Roman Catholic of her time. Event: "The Other I Am"—A Retreat of Reflection and Writing

Details: Are you yearning to reconnect with your inner voice in a supportive, spiritual and meditative environment? Walt Whitman used the phrase “The Other I Am” to describe that part of himself associated with the creative impulse. During this retreat, we will provide a range of opportunities for structured activities and unstructured time to allow you to tap “the other I am”—the wellspring within—to reveal the sacred that is ever present in ordinary experience. We will utilize reflective writing and lectio divina practices to center, ground and deepen our spiritual awareness and connection to the divine. These practices will be interspersed with opportunities for rest, meditation, prayer, silence and shared conversation.

Event: The Sacred Manuscript of Nature-A Day Retreat

Event: Peacemaking Grounded in Prayer

Details: A retreat to nurture, encourage, and strengthen peacemakers, sponsored by the Central District Conference of the Mennonite Church USA. This is not a training or a workshop but a time of inner reflection and sharing with a circle of like-minded partners in faith. The retreat is intended to encourage practices of prayer that can deepen the loving relationship with God on which active Christian peacemaking is based, to offer a space where peacemakers may discover prayer not just as a way to "recharge their batteries" but as a foundation for discernment and action. It will include periods of both discussion and silence, using biblical texts as a basis for reflection and discussion on styles of discipleship, prayer, contemplative prayer as listening prayer, and the relationship between spirituality and peacemaking.

Event: IN DEEP SILENCE: Exploring Quiet in Community

Details: Find the ascetic within yourself to live a calmer, less cluttered, and more God-centered life. This workshop will include excerpts from a documentary film on the monastic Carthusian Order as well as providing opportunities to journal, discuss, and contemplate silence. All who seek peace and stillness are welcome, from any religious tradition or none, and with experience in meditation or not.

Event: THE WELCOMING PRAYER: attending, letting go, and surrendering to God

Details: This day is an opportunity to experience a prayer practice that can transform our responses to both the challenges and ordinariness of everyday life. Developed by Contemplative Outreach’s late master teacher Mary Mrozowski, the Welcoming Prayer is based largely on the teaching and wisdom of Fr. Thomas Keating and the eighteenth-century work Abandonment to Divine Providence by Jean-Pierre de Caussade. Topics covered in this introductory retreat: Human Condition, Method of the Welcoming Prayer Practice, Fruits of the Prayer & Extending the Fruits Into Daily Life.

Details: These silent, directed retreats are made alone. The retreatant meets three times with the spiritual director for reflection, discernment, and suggestions for prayer and readings. The remainder of the time is spent in periods of prayer, spiritual reading, resting, walking, and enjoying the natural world.

Event: Come Away: A Directed Retreat for Clergy

Details: The retreat experience at Diakonia, a Greek Orthodox Retreat Center, is unhurried and quiet, with delicious Greek food! Each retreatant has a cozy private cabin nestled in the woods. There are hiking trails, canoes and a lovely 11-acre lake. (Though this retreat is intended for clergy, we will keep a waiting list for others as there is space.)

Virginia

Event: Labyrinth Prayer Walks
Dates: February 10, 2008 (First Sunday in Lent), March 21, 2008 (Good Friday), May 11, 2008 (Pentecost), June 15, 2008 (Father's Day), October 5, 2008 (World Communion Sunday) and November 30, 2008 (First Sunday in Advent)
Time: 6 to 8PM when on a Sunday and Noon to 3PM on Friday.  Plan to arrive 30 minutes before closing.

Details: No prior experience is necessary; orientation is offered to those who have not walked a labyrinth before.  An eight-page brochure is given to each walker upon entering and includes an insert for the specific prayer walk.  A finger labyrinth is available for those unable to walk without assistance.

Details: The time includes brief introductions, opening prayer, some relaxation movements, the evening's presentation, 15 minutes of silence, journal-keeping and small group sharing. There is a closing intercessory prayer circle to name our concerns aloud or silently.

Event: Contemplative Labyrinth Retreat

Details: The labyrinth is one of the oldest contemplative and transformational tools known to humanity. Walk this ancient path to reflect, relax and find your center. Silence, labyrinth walking, story telling, journaling and harp music will feed your spirit. Nature walks and simple, healthy food will nourish your body.
