Election Quiet Day

November 4, 2008, 10am-2pm
(All are welcome for as long as they can stay.)

"O God, you have bound us together in a common life."
(The Book of Common Prayer)

In the midst of the election excitement, it is easy to forget that it is "God in whom we live and move and have our being." Times of quiet and reflection can slow us down, open us more fully to the presence of the Holy One, and help us live from our deepest center. During this Quiet Day we will soak all of the candidates, our democratic election process, and our hopes and dreams for our nation with the mysterious blessings of intentional prayer. As we reflect on our hopes for God's new and abundant life in our nation, we will listen more deeply for the personal and communal invitations that are the heartbeat of the Holy One alive in each of us.

Those who feel drawn to become the spiritual community for this day will gather for prayerful reflection at 10:00 and depart after closing prayers at 2:00. This sustaining community will serve as the praying heart of the day and will listen for the guidance of the Spirit as they silently welcome others who flow in and out of their midst. Prayers for our nation will be offered again at 11:00, 12:00, and 1:00 and each litany of prayers will be followed by time for silence and individual reflection. We only ask that each person enter and exit in respectful silence. Come for the day, stop by on your way to the polls or drop in during your lunch hour.
