Shalem Appoints New Executive Director

BETHESDA, MD, March 2, 2010 -- The Board of Directors of the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation is delighted to announce the appointment of Leah Rampy as executive director, effective February 22, 2010.

Dr. Rampy has been serving as Shalem's Interim Executive Director since June 2009. She is a graduate of Shalem's Personal Spiritual Deepening and Deepening Contemplative Leadership Programs and also has served as adjunct faculty for several programs. She is a former member of Shalem's Board of Directors, an ordained elder and deacon in the Presbyterian church, a Stephen Minister, and frequently teaches and leads retreats.

"We are thrilled to have such a talented, inspired leader as Leah," said Grace Cummings, president of Shalem's Board of Directors.  "Her special gifts of executive leadership, coupled with her experience of Shalem and her own spiritual grounding, are just what is needed for Shalem at this moment."

Dr. Rampy holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum from Indiana University. In 2000, she founded ILLUMINE LLC, specializing in leadership consulting; she has worked with many non-profit presidents, executive directors, staff and boards as well as executives in corporations, associations and government agencies. Her previous professional experience includes 20 years managing all aspects of training and development for Fortune 100 companies as well as serving as vice president of human resources. Prior to working in corporations, she served as assistant professor of education, working with pre- and in-service teachers at the university level.

She is active in a number of professional and community organizations and serves on the Board of the Tahirih Justice Center as well as on the Board of Visitors for Indiana University School of Education. She is a founding member of and serves on the McLean Connections Steering Committee, a grass roots organization that has helped to bring multicultural and interfaith dialogues to the community in an effort to increase understanding and resilience post 9/11. She lives in McLean, VA, with her husband, David, and two children, Andrew and Ana.
